Before taking up his current role in 2007, he was the Dean of Engineering, Computing and Creative Industries at Edinburgh Napier University and prior to that, he was the Principal/Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Massey University at Palmerston North, New Zealand from 1999 to 2003. He has over 25 years of international experience in teaching and research, and strategic management in higher education. Rao gained his masters in chemical and biochemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and his PhD from the University of Queensland in Australia. He is an environmental engineer with extensive research and industrial experience. He has published extensively in peer- reviewed scientific journals and developed and implemented several large-scale environmental technology processes and systems. He was a Governing Board Member of the International Water Association for 18 years, having initiated or contributed to a number of environmental initiatives internationally. In recognition of his contribution to the water industry, he was made a Freeman of the City of London in 2012.

Johan Swinnen is Professor of Economics and Director of the LICOS Centre for Institutions and Economic Performance at the University of Leuven (KUL), Belgium. He is also Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), Brussels, where he directs the programme on EU agricultural and rural policy. He was previously Lead Economist at the World Bank and Economic Advisor at the European Commission. He consults for the OECD, FAO, EBRD, UNDP, IFAD and to several Governments, and was coordinator of several international research networks on food policy, institutional reforms, and economic development. He was President-elect of the International Association of Agricultural Economists, a Fellow of the European Association of Agricultural Economists and President of the Beeronomics Society. He has published widely on political economy, institutional reform, trade, agricultural and food policy.

Breeding ground for my own e-business enthusiasm was certainly my internship at IBM Unternehmensberatung GmbH and further works within the IBM Consulting Group, where I had the chance to gain deeper insight in the creation of e-marketplaces. Claes Brundenius is Honorary Professor at the Lund School of Economics and Management, Lund University, Sweden, where he also received his PhD in Economic History. He is also Professor Extraordinaire at Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa, and Professorial Fellow at UNU-MERIT, Netherlands. He has been working at the OECD in Paris and has also worked as advisor in numerous projects and on international missions, including Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Russia, Nepal, Mozambique and South Africa. He has been Guest Professor at Pittsburgh University and Smith College, USA, and at the Vietnam National University. Between 1997 and 2003 he was Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Development Research in Copenhagen. His current research is focusing how STI policies can play a role for inclusive development. He is a member of several international advisory groups and is serving as a referee for various international journals, including World Development, Science and Public Policy and the Journal of Latin American Studies. His research focuses on the role of science, technology and innovation in development and economic growth.
